My 91 Escort automatic transaxle has lost third gear. Since everything seems normal including fluid I feel that the problem may not be 3rd gear clutches and may be a sensor or some other inexpensive fix. How can I troubleshoot this to be sure, before spending a lot of money on a used transaxle

No you can check for codes and do pressure tests. If no codes then need to drop pan and check 3-4 shift solenoid

My Repair manual dosnt think im smart enough to work on a transmission. Where can I get more detailed information on troubleshooting this and on this solenoid. The only code that came up was 23, Thrittle Positioning Sensor.
