1987 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 10000+ miles

I have a 1987 Ford Escort that is not getting fuel to the injector. I replace the fuel pump, filter, relay & timing belt about 6 months ago. It did chug in 1st and sometimes second when starting to move and occassionally going down the road as if the the fuel was temp shut off.
It had not run for a couple of months. so I had it idling before I was going to get gas when it started idking rough, heavy blue smoke and stopped (possably running out of gas). I put gas in it and have power to the injector. I have not yet checked power to the pump. Is there any thing else I should look at before or as well. It did chug before the new fuel pump was put in.
