2001 Ford Escape lift gate and rear window won't open

the lift gate and window will not open everytime I try to open them. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. When I click the key fob opener it does not make a "opening" noise like it is not unlocking it?

The door lock actuator is bad. I had the exact same problem and found this http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_remove_the_lift_gate_door_lock_actuator_on_the_2001_Ford_Escape

Folllowed the directions and worked like a charm.
