When my vehicle has been idleing for long periods of time it will not accelerate like it should. I use the vehicle as a security vehicle and will have to let it idle for some periods of time. When I need to take off or acceleration suddenly it will not go. You can hear the engine taking in the air and engine wind up like its tring to go but it will not go. Sometimes I have to let off the gas pedal and then slowly push down on it and it will start going faster but will not. The sudden push on the gas pedal even just driving the vehicle will do the same thing.

Check and test all the following below:

Oxygen sensor
Catalytic converter
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
