The timing belt in my car was replaced about 5000 miles ago and now is giving me trouble again. I was told it needs to replaced, shouldn't they last for years, 100000 miles? Why is it doing this? Should I spend the money to fix it?

Are you sure its the timing belt?Have u scanned the computer to check any codes?Maybe your mechanik did a bad job. Timing belts do last along time 60 to 80 to 130k even more sometimes. But normally is good to change it every 60kmiles. 5kmiles means they didnt do a good job. Maybe you just have another problem and has similiar symptoms?

Yes, invest. Fix it and sell that car. Ill be honest id never buy a contour its one of fords worst cars. No offense meant im just being honest.I see tons of those cars with bad head gaskets and transmission problems. Even manual transmisions on those give to much problems.

Well, I spent 1400 on it to buy the car, to save on gas, it does do pretty good on mileage, 28 mpg. My plan was to run it until the wheels fell off. Sounds like that will come sooner than I expected. Thanks for your advice.
