The car is a V6 with 93000 miles.

The brake lamps will not light, but the taillamps work with the lights on. The bulbs are fine and the fuse is not blown. The auxilary 3rd brake light does work however when the brake pedal is depressed.

Thanks for any help.

There are 3 fuses to check, 10, 33 and 35. Do the turn signals work on front and back lights. Each side is on a seperate fuse for the front and rear turn signals and parking and tail lights. The brake light bulbs might have 2 filaments, one for tailight and the other for brake light. You should be able to see the filaments if you take the bulb out and hold it with bright light behind it. Otherwise it could be your brakelight switch mounted on the brake pedal. I'm not sure if that could be it if your 3rd brake light is working, but you could check for loose wires on it.

Thanks for your help Rudpro. I checked the fuses you mentioned and they were all good. The filaments are fine in the bulbs and they light up when the turn signals are in use (signals are fine front and back too).

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

I can't access my wiring diagram. I'll try later. I have found out though that this is a problem Contours have. Apparently, the brake light wiring goes through the turn signal switch. I don't remember seeing that. I'm curious to access the diagram again to see if it shows it. The switch needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Clean any contacts and take apart any connections and clean them also. Try it and see. If that doesn't work, you may have to replace the switch.

Thanks, I will try that. If you get a chance to see your wiring diagram I would appreciate any additional.

Thanks,

Mike
