Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Ford Contour 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 140K miles
My motor has been smoking for about a month now, after about 5 minutes of driving. Just this week, I went to start it, and it just clicked, went to start it the next day, totally dead, lights wont even come on. Im going to assume that my alternator is out, but I started thinking and I remembered on my Bronco the starter started smoking before it went out....The smoke from my Contour never really smelled like oil, it was more a rubbery burning smell, and my oil level is fine. The smoke has been coming from about the right underside of the motor but Im not even sure where my alternator is located and can not find a diagram online to save my life. So, my two questions are, is a smoking alternator even a possibility and where is the alternator located on a 1996 Ford Contour?
