1995 Ford Contour tiiming

I have a 95 contour gl 2.0 and I am doing the head gasket. I am confused about lining up the timing marks on the crankshaft and oil pan because when I bring cylinder #1(closest to passenger side) to TDC the crankshaft and oil pan timing marks are not lined up

Refer to the belt routing diagrams site on this page. It will identify where the marks go. Let me know if it helps.

I was using the diagram but the marks on the crankshaft pulley and oil pan do line up when cylinder #1 is at TDC

Did you have the harmonic balancer off for any reason?

I took off the crankshaft pulley but then I put back on to align the timing marks

Okay, I need to know something. Behind the pulley is the harmonic balancer. It is keyed and can only go on the crankshaft one way. Are there marks on that?
