1990 Ford Bronco The check engine light comes on at startup

At start up the check engine light comes on then after like a minute the engine will change sounds slightly and the light goes off, what would cuase this?

Have the computer scanned for code/s. You have a problem within the engine management system this is your starting point-Dunno if Autozone is still doing the free scanning won't hurt to check.
