bought it for 37484 miles and 2695.00 cash.
had car for 18 days, as partner was driving the car around the corner the oil light came on, the car shuddered and came to a complete stop, partner put oil in straight away. The car would not start it was dead. Called the guy we bought the car from he came with equipment and started the car said he would be back next day to collect, said it neede new oil filter. Next day he came the car started straight away and they drove it off to there garage the same night they called and said that we had been driving the car with the oil light and that the car would need a new engine costing us 1000.00?

please can you help as we have done nothing wrong and they are saying we have how can it go frm starting in the morning they drove it away and now it needs a new engine.

Sounds as though someone is pulling the wool of someone else. First of all needing a new oil filter would not cause this UNLESS the filter was installed improperly which should not be the new owners problem. It is possible for the filter to leak and actually spew all of the oil out of the engine. Installed improperly such as not tightened correctly or what happens a lot is that the gasket on the filter was missing or the old filters gasket was not removed. Not the new owner problem.

You really should have checked the oil in his presence. I would check the oil filter with a witness to note what is occuring to cause the oil to escape that quickly.
