Once the car is started when you press the gas the car starts stuttering at higher speeds. Feels like the car won't surpass a certain speed. Almost like something is clogged up.

This sounds like a fuel issue but we need to start with checking for codes. If there are codes, that can take us in a totally different direction.

If there are no codes then we need to monitor fuel pressure when this issue is happening. If it is dropping then we know the pump may not be able to keep up.

If fuel pressure is okay, then this could also be a torque converter issue. However, we can get into that if the fuel checks out.

Alright, thanks a lot. I have a icarsoft so I'm going to see what it tells me tomorrow and get back to you with any codes.

Good morning. I hooked the icarsoft up to the car and don't understand what I'm reading. Can you please tell me where I should start if you are familiar with this scanner with what's relevant to my issues? Thank you.

Can you take pictures of the screen so I can see what you are seeing? I am not familiar with that scanner but I am sure I can help you figure it out.

I uploaded a video on exactly what I was talking about with the vehicle. There are no lights on the dashboard. There are also pictures of the icarsoft start up menu because I don't know how to approach the issue I have.

Okay. The video helps but first the tool is just showing you a list of all the modules that are on the vehicle. However, if the issue is that when you rev the engine in park it gets to 4,000 RPM's and then you hear is surging? Is this correct? When you said you were accelerating I thought you meant when the vehicle was picking up speed. But you mean the engine speed is increasing but you are sitting still and it revs up and then kind of surges or bounces?

Yes. When it's in park and you step on the gas, once it gets to a certain speed it starts to stutter and shake until you let up off the gas.I don't believe the car can accelerate past 60 mph without this. Not sure yet because it's not insured.

Okay. This is actually normal when you are in park. This is called the rev limiter and it is there so you don't over rev the engine while in park. There is no load on the engine and if it doesn't limit this then it is possible to cause the engine to fail by causing it to run to fast with no load.

If it doesn't go over 60 MPH then this is a different issue and not related to what you are seeing in Park.

Wow, thanks for that answer because I never knew that.I must've had a few vehicles without that mechanism. About over 60 mph, that was actually a guess because I haven't driven the vehicle since I got it. Especially not on the highway yet. Thanks again though.

Got it. Yeah. That feature is found in higher end vehicles that have an electronic throttle. Around 2005 it became pretty standard on all vehicles but Mercedes Benz was one of the first.
