Hello, I'm looking to replacing an EGR valve and was hoping you had a detailed walk through/instructions.

Does your EGR look like the image below or is it just a round looking disk?

I am not sure. It's my sisters car and she asked me to clean it out this Saturday. Just trying to see if it's a big job to take it out.

Well there are 3 different ones for that car. As a general rule EGR vales are very easy to replace as they are right on the top of the motor. There are no tricks to it. Unplug the wires and vacuum line if it has one and pull 2 or 3 bolts and its out. Then reverse what you did to put it back in.

If you should have any issues we are always here.

With over 180,000 miles is cleaning the EGR valve good enough or replacing it?

My sister said there was a code for EGR valve being clogged.

As long as the valve is functioning you can just clean it. As weird as it may sound the best thing to clean them with is oven cleaner. Spray it down with easy off and let it sit 20 minutes, rinse and repeat until it's clean.

Do not however spray easy off into the port on the intake manifold. If that port is plugged it will likely require pulling the manifold to clean it out. Much bigger job.

On the up side, the EGR is not required. It is emissions only so you can if you have to ignore the code and leave it. Unless you live in a place that does vehicle smog testing. Then you will have to fix it.
