water pump

i am doing a water pump replacement on a 97 dodge stratus with a 2.4 duel overhead cam. i need to find out how to find dead center the motor. if anyone can help it would be appreciated!

Pull your #1 plug, then crank the engine by hand, put a finger over the plug hole, as you feel the compression when the piston is at the top of it's travel, the crank will point to zero on the harmonic balance and the pointer on the motor...

the hole in over three inches down into the head so i cant find it. is there any other way to find it? how do i take the crank pully off without turning the moter. the same with the cam sprockes without damageing them?

This is a semi complex job, how much do you know about engine work? The timming covers need to come off, the harmonic balance then set your marks, then remove the tenioner, remove the belt, mark it's direction of travel first, then the water pump, you then need to put the tensioner in a vise and colapse it, and install a lock pin in the hole. Tighten crank bolt to 134 ft lbs
