my son's car died yesterday when idling. We were able to get it home by applying gas while braking all the way here. Any suggestions?

Is the check engine light on? If so pull codes. your local Auto Zone or similar will do it for free.

Sound like it could be your Idle Air Control Valve or the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor.

I took it to a mechanic. He called it a *coker* and said it was the throttle cable(?) that needed cleaning. He cleaned it up and sent us on our way. Thanks for the answer and maybe the solution will be helpful to others.
