My car makes a noise like it's going over grated road but when I turn one way, it's gone. I turn the other way, it's still there. Of course the noise is more so the faster I go and less when I am coming to a stop. Is it the bearing? And if so, is it costly to fix or dangerous to drive on?

Hello,

Is it more of a clicking sound? from what you describe it sounds like it could be a CV Axle going bad.

A bearing usually sounds like a low roar or scraping and is usually constant, except that it may sound higher or lower depending on speed.

no, it's definitely a low roaring which gets louder as the car goes faster. it's very annoying after awhile

Ok, then most likely it is the bearing. Also have you had new tires put on? I know on some vehicles new tires will make a roaring sound for a few weeks after install.

well the tires look new and still have nipples on them but I've been driving this with the noise since I got the car back in May so I'm assuming that would have been worn off by now. I thank you for all your help, I just wish I had a mechanic in the family to do this without taking all my money.

Yes, I would say the tires should have worn down by now also.

Also, do you feel a vibration in the front floor board on either side? If so that would also point to the bearing.

not that I have noticed. How much would it cost to have that repaired?

Your vehicle has what is called Hub Bearing Assemblies and if I am not mistaken your is Bolt on, and the cost of the bearing if you can do it would cost about $100. If have to have a garage do it you will be looking at about $500 - $800 or so for total job.
