The other night I cranked my 1997 Stratus it was sluggish but it finally started and there was a strong odor of gas after it started. Then the next day when I went to start it it would barely turn over like the battery was weak. I charged the battery up and when I tried to start it, it turned over but would not start so I pressed the gas pedal down a little and the car started but when I let off the car dies immediately. You can still smell gas real strong after the car dies. I need help.

Hi dtrull70 and welcome to 2carpros Did you disconnect the battery when you charge it ? If so computer lost its memory and its relearning itself-If not -start by checking the fuel pressure making sure its within specifications. If the engine condition is in good shape and valve and ignition timing is correct-this leaves fuel or spark problem.
