Hi,

i need some help. While driving my car on highway, it slips out of 5th gear. Can anyone tell me if it is the transmission or something else?

Thanks,

Kim

Does it just slip for a few seconds? Does it klunk out and back in? Does the rpms just go up and it goes back in smoothly?

How long is it slipping? Does shift lever stay in 5th gear slot? What conditions cause it the most? Fast acceleration? Slow?

While driving at about 65 miles per hr and when I take my foot off the gas pedal or in cruise control, the car pops out of 5th gear. It does not do it in any other gear. It goes back in smoothly. It occurs as I take my foot off the pedal or in cruise control as the car is trying to get back to the set speed.

Sounds like a synchromesh problem, its a internal issue, take it in to a trans shop, see if they can adjust your trans, if not its probably the synchromesh.
