I purchased a used 2006 1500 Ram 4WD from a dealer in Ohio about two months ago. Milage when purchased was 27K. I now have almost 30K.

About 29.5K I noticed that when the left turn signal was deployed, the indacator on the dash would show a left signal and then switch to the right signal causing the right signal lights to flash when in the left position. I assumed I was bumping the turn signal switch and paid no attention. I also ran out of windshield washer fluid for the first time and the dash light did not warn me of the low fluid condition. I assumed the sensor was defective. So off to the dealer we went to have a warrenty repair done. The dealer found that the sensor was OK and the computer needed replacement. Acording to the dealer, "Every light on the dash panel runs through the computer." I also told them of the turn signal indacator problem. They told me the new computer would "solve all my problems" This morning I found some of the dash lights coming on then off on the highway and the MPG and DTE computer readout was also giving false readings. I reported those problems to the dealer via cell phone and was assured that all my problems were from the faulty computer. OK, so be it! A new computer was installed today. It didn't fix any of the problems. Three hours of troubleshooting later, they could not find any system faults but the problems are still there.

Tonight I noticed a new possible problem when taking my family out to dinner. When I shut the truck down (key in the off position and removed), the radio was still playing until I opened the drivers door, then the radio shut down. I repeated the process of turning on the ignition then turning off the ingition, then opening the drivers door to shut the radio off several times. The results were consistant. Could this be a new feature programmed into the new computer or a fault. Could the dealer have installed the wrong computer? I took a look through my owners manual I did not find a single word about my "new found" feature. I also looked through the 2007 and 2008 manuals online and could not find this new radio shutdown feature.

BTW: The dealer damaged my right side mirror when they ran the truck through the wash after servicing and never said a word. I found the damage before I left the dealer and reported it. They are replacing the mirror next week.

Any words of wisdom out there? I feel like I'm in the movie 2001 A Space Oddesey. I'm waiting for the computer to say "Hello Ken!"

First Reply! And it's Me the original poster!

Hey Bob and Ken!

I guess you must make a donation to the site to get any advice! This site is loaded with advertising so why should I make any donation? You guys are making a fortune on just your advertising. I own a website too and make a huge chunk of change because of people advertising on my site with popups and stuff. I'm able to pay my site fees and have enough money left over each month to pay my fuel bills for a car, truck and motorhome and still have change. Even at 4 bucks a gallon!

Almost 150 people have looked at my question and no replys. Not even a "Hell if I know"!

Maybe you should add this site into your "Avoid Car Repair Rip Offs" section as a place where you must pay for a simple answer.

By the way! My truck runs great now. I took it to a different dealer that gave me a free loaner for the day and had everything fixed in four hours including a free wash and inside cab cleaning.

If you want to know exactly what was wrong and how they fixed it, MAKE A DONATION TO ME!
