2001 Dodge Ram V8 Two Wheel Drive 90k miles

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 2WD with the 5.2L v-8.
Today while driving the check gauges light illuminted and did its beeping notice as well. I looked at the gauges and it was the volts gauge and the needle read 0 as if It was not even running. I pulled over got out and took a look under the hood and the serpentine belt was nearly all gone. There was only less than a 1/4" width of it left in tact. I thought it was a way over due belt that just started to desintagrate..
I looked around the engine some more and saw that the idler pullley was all but gone. (seized bearings inside idler pulley perhaps..?) WOuld it be prudent to replace the idler pulley only? or the whole idler tennsioner as well? Is there a way to test if the right amount of tension still remains in the tennsioner.
Thank you
