Ok I recently put a newer battery on my Dodge Ram, I still had to jump off the truck to get it to start. I finally got it started up, let it warm up and drove it for about 30 minutes or so. Once I got home, I killed the engine and went to restart it. All I got was a clicking noise. My first thoughts is that it is the starter, second I'm thinking it could be the alt. I took the negative cable off of the battery and it remained running. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

most auto part stores will test the charging system and starter for free. removing the negative battery cable from a running engine is never a good way to test the alternator... have the alternator, battery and starter tested at local auto part store. also make sure battery cable ends are tight and clean.

. I took the negative cable off of the battery and it remained running.

What you're doing here is creating an overload that could cause problems within the electrical system
