I am replacing the drivers side axle seal. I have removed front axle, differential cover, and differential caps. How do you get the differential out of case to change seal?

Install a dial indicator between the two sides of the differential housing. Install a case spreader tool. Expand the housing until the differential can be pried out, but do not spread the housing more than .020" or it will be distorted. Remove the dial indicator to remove the differential. Mark the bearing cones to be sure they go back in the same way they came out.

Use the dial indicator again when you install the center section to be sure you don't spread the housing more than .020". Be sure to put the caps on the same way they came off.
