We have a 1997 Dodge Ram that a couple of months ago we were driving & it just died while driving the truck. We took it to a service shop & they replaced the fuel pump & now it just happened again. The same service shop said that now it has to be something electrical but they said that they cannot pin point what & where the electrical problem is occurring. We were wondering if other people have had similar problems with Dodge Rams & if so what was their outcomes. Much insight & expert opinions is needed & would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are three systems that must be checked. Listen for the fuel pump's hum for one second when you turn on the ignition switch. If you hear that, you don't have a fuel problem. Next, check for spark. If it is missing, listen by the tank if the pump is running during engine cranking. More than likely you will not have spark AND the fuel pump will not run during engine cranking. After that initial one second, the pump doesn't turn on again until the engine is rotating, (cranking or running).

The third circuit is the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. When one of them fails, the Engine Computer turns off the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay. That relay sends power to the ignition coil, injectors, alternator field, and fuel pump or pump relay.
