1988 Dodge Ram D150 318 Odo: 77K Automatic
Last week I was driving home from work and gunned the engine to merge on to the highway. The bypass hose burst. Limped home and replaced the bypass hose and thermostat. Now the heater will not heat when needed and the truck is still overheating. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Richard

sounds to me that you need to change the head gasket. perform a compression test.

Gunning hte engine could have damaged the head gasket causing a increase in pressure causing the hose to burst! if the gaskets are good check for craked heads.

if thats not hte problem, whihc most likely is, then the system will have to be bled.

Thank you Blacktop. You were right, the system needed to be bled. I took your advice and adapted it a little: take the cheapest, easiest route first. The bleeding did the trick. Cheers!
