I have a 2000 dodge neon it is a automatic. Since last week my car has had extremly high RPM/idle. When it is in park or neutral it sounds like the engine might blow because of the RPMs. When its in gear it wants to accelerate even without touching the gas pedal. It will just keep accelerating and I have to ride the breaks. I have to put the brakes all the way down when at low speeds to stop. The car might have a broken motor mount cuz the engine shifts when starting or putting into gear. I really need to find out what could be causing this and how to fix it. Could it possibly be the throttle bore or the thermostat?

Has the check engine light come on? A few things could be causing this, but without the light and a trouble code, I would be guessing.

Let me know.

This is a tough one to diagnose via the internet. I would recommend checking for vacuum leaks and make sure there are no wiring problems to the computer. I heard there has been problems there, but that would take diagnosis time at a shop to check for the problem.

I will try to contact the person that told me about the wiring problem and let you know what he said. Sorry, I can't remember exactly what he said, but I know there was a wiring problem at the computer that caused this problem.
