1999 Dodge Neon 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 99 neon that started to overheat so I pulled over before it got hot. I called a tow company and they arrived 45 min later. The driver started my car and drove it onto the bed of his truck. Now, ath the mechanic shop, my mechanic said that I have 3 bent valves due to it being drove onto the bed of the truck. It ran fine then. But it would not run once the waterpump was replaced and somehow has 3 bent valves. What caused this and who would be responsible for bent valves. I'm not sure to trust this mechanic anymore.

Hello,

Since this vehicle is not an Interference Type Engine. The only way I know that the valves would have gotten bent is when the Water Pump was replaced, It is run by the Timing Belt, and the timing wasn't aligned properly. Thus the Piston hitting the Valves producing the Bent Valves.

It is an interference engine. Timing belt drives the water pump. Bent one of the exhaust valves on #1 cyl and both intake valves on #2 cyl.

Oooops Typing faster than thinkin and not rereading. Anyway same still goes the only way I know would have been the timing alignment wasn't set right or possibly he turned the cam or crank without the belt on.

If the car ran fine when driven onto flatbed and the only problem was starting to overheat. Then I don't see how the valves could have gotten bent.

I think he is just trying to cover his own butt. And trying to get you to pay for his mistake.
