Hey, I have a 1998 Dodge Neon 2.0L SOHC, automatic. While driving above 80km/h the steering wheel begins to shake violently. The steering wheel also doesn't sit stright while driving stright, it is slanted heavily to the left. The car also tends to wander the road a lot. Everything in the front end seems to be fairly solid and tight. Could it be that the wheels are simply off balance?

Any advice is appriciated.

I drive a 1999 Neon and I had the same problem. Every time I hit about 55km and 85km my steering got shakey and it pulled to the right a bit. Turns out that my front right rim was bent and the wheights on it were putting it off balance. I decided to get all 4 tired balanced just to be safe and its only about $15 per wheel. The car drives really straight and doesnt shake any more. Hope this helps!

The 1st step tire balance
Have the tires checked and balanced
As for wandering if you say the front end tested ok
Its alignment time
So have the front end align and the tires checked and balanced

Good luck
