I have a 2.0 dohc 97 neon and was driving home from work and it just died and leaking water from the rear of the engine. Now it will crank over but won't start. Also when cranking over it will leak water. I have no idea of what to do. Could you give me some ideas? The last time a car did this to me it had thrown a timing belt. Does this sound like it could be the problem? And if so is thier clearance on these motors and what would i have to do besides replace the belt? When I got the car I was told it had only 87000 miles on it but more likely 187000.

Did it over heat and if so you need to do a compression test

check head gasket
also check timing belt /water pump

If it's leaking coolant from the engine, it's likley to be a warped head, blown head gasket, or blown freeze plug. a quick compression test will tell you if it's a head or gasket problem(most likley), if it is you'll need to replace the timing belt again anyway!
