My car just went on a trip of 1300 kms ..... the next day, the check engine light came on ...

It's a 1995 Dodge Neon with 161000 kilometers

The check engine light went off since then.

Since then, when I put the car into drive, it tries to stall .... usually in drive ..... I have to hit the gas pretty fast to get the RPM's up ..... it falls between 0 and 1 when it tries to stall ....

Anyway any info would help ..... I am thinking it is the fuel filter ..... if it is, would that be hard to change ??

I just had a person come over to check it out .... he seems to think it is the timing belt ...... which I just had replaced last month :(

Anyone out there ??

You need to have that check engine light investiated. Pull the codes and post back.
That will help narrow it down a lot.

Good luck and post back. :)

The check engine light went off after I loosened the gas cap ...... lol ..... one of those Neon quirks I guess ...... I was able to go for a short drive earlier ... without problems ..... I had to talk to "Rod" the whole way to keep moving .... lol

I am thinking it might have been water in the gas tank ...... the car would stall when parked ..... get jerky when I would drive .... and the check engine light would go off and on .... anyone else have any ideas ?

I took it out this morning with no problems ..... I put gas in yesterday and engine coolant ....... hopefully it's a case of water in the gas ...
