My Neon has about 135000km on it. I purchased it from my cousin two years ago in great condition, she had followed all the dealer repair schedules. The only problems I've had with it were it would lose power and run very rough when punching the gas or climbing a hill, but new plugs filter and code reset fixed it. Now when I run it on the highway it will start overheating. I was starting a trip when it started happening, so I had pull over and wait 20 minutes for it to cool down before making my way back home. The guage shoots right up to the max and starts beeping. I noticed if I blast the hot air, it helps keep the guage low. This only happens driving on the highway at around 80km/h or more. My fan and fuse for rad/fan are good. Coolant is not low. I hope it's not my head gasket.. what else could it be?

Start by replacing the thermostat and see what happens. If it continues to overheat get it block and pressure tested to rule out a blown headgasket, cracked head or block that's if the radiator and water pump are okay-
