2000 Dodge Intrepid, 2.7, 6 cly, 2 wheel drive
118,000 miles.
Water temp gauge kept jumping up and down, checked water and reserve was empty, let engine cool, refilled water, drove 5 miles and it happended again. Had car towed home, checked oil no water,
when we drained oil, it had a strange color to it and smelled like gas, it was a creamy camel color, checked engine and no water, no cracks in hoses, no visible wear on belts, what could be wrong?

Sounds like coolant is getting into the oil. IF it is now cold and has sat for 8 hours. CAREFULLY turn the oil drain plug back enough so that you are very slowly draining the oil into a clear container. IF it has sat long enough the coolant will seperate from the oil. The coolant drops to the bottom adn is what you may find when you do this.

The 2.7 engine leaves a lot to be desired. Head gasket problem?
