Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
I think that I have a blown head gasket, but I do not know how to tell. It overheated while I was driving and it looks like oil has sprayed all over the driver's side of the engine. A friend said that he thought it was the head gasket, but I don't know.

By description, I wouldn't think so.

Head gasket doesn't spray, but another leak would.

You need to get some coolant back into it and then run it. While it runs, keep an eye on the temperature gauge and keep a look out for a leak that gets worse as pressure increases. DON'T let the gauge get into the red zone or you might cause a headgsket to go bad.
