What would the cost be to repair a blown head gasket or cracked head?
Car emits white smoke from tail pipe, heater takes a long time to warm up and shakes while driving and pick-up is slow, could this mean it is a blown head gasket or cracked head?
Thank you, concerned MOM for daughter's car.

Hi:
Yes, white smoke is usually an indicator that there is coolant geting into the combustion chamber. The most common reason is a bad head gasket; however, a cracked head could do it too.

To replace the head gasket, it will most likely be around 3 to 4 hundred dollars. If the head needs replaced, a used one would run aprox. 150.00 dollars.

Keep in mind, I don't know where you live, so it's hard to estimate the labor cost per hour.

I hope this helps.

Joe

As it turned out - the dealership found it to be a bad thermostat and housing unit. Thanks for your input :)
