1997 Dodge Intrepid battery problems

i dont know which wires to put onto the battery prongs without frying the battery.. theres 5 differnt wires and when i put them on how i thought they went on theres no power to the car..but when i change them up they get real hot and start smoking!! help

You got 3 black wires 1 red wire -the other one goes to the power distribution box which is gonna be a hot circuit- Its getting hot bcuz you are mixing a hot and ground wire. You need to do a continuity test on the black wires to determine what black wire goes to ground-see below
