I went out this morning and the battery was dead on my durango so I tried jumping it. After a few minutes it would turn over and start so long a I was pressing the gas. If I do not press the gas it will not start and if I do press it to start it and then let off it stalls instantly. This all happens while is is still being jumped. I tried replacing the battery with no change. What do I do?

I'm having the same problem in my '99 Durango. I'm guessing its the alternator.

I started it (leaving foot on the gas so it wouldnt die) and a friend held a wrench up to the alternator... No magnetic pull.

If anyone knows of anything else that could cause this problem... I'd like to know before i spend money on an alternator and have the problem be something else.

THANKS!
