Speedometer stuck

V8 two wheel drive automatic 120,000 miles.

The man at the parts house told me to remove the ground cable off the battery before I started. I replaced the cam positioning sensor on my truck and when I put the ground cable back on the battery my speedometer went 120 mph and stayed there. I removed the ground cable for about thirty minutes and replaced it and it is still stuck there. Even with the ground cable off the battery the speedometer was still on 120 mph. Help!

Remove the cluster and manually push the needle over to 0 with your finger and it should be okay.

Replaced the battery and the speedometer got stuck at max speed on my 2001 Dodge Dakota.

To fix it, do the following (do not need to remove the cluster!):
1. Turn ignition off.
2. Press and hold odometer/trip odometer button while turning ignition switch on.
3. Continue to hold odometer/trip odometer button approximately ten seconds until odometer window displays CHEC.
4. Release button.
5. Lights will flash and the speedometer will move through some tests and then land back at 0.
6. Turn off ignition - all fixed.
Note: if a problem does exist, a three digit diagnostic trouble code will display. Contact your dealer for further assistance.
