My 01 Quad Cab Dakota with 2 wheel drive and Automatic with 143000 miles is having issues with the cruise contol slipping in and out at speeds between 45 through 75 MPH. It does not completely deactivate but it quickly jumps in and out enough to see the tach drop off and speed up. Thought at first it was the torque converter lock up but it doesn't do it unless the cruise is engaged. Transmission has been serviced 4 times and shows no filings or other debris in the pan. Is it possible some of the cable shielding has fallen off degrading the signal, or the speed sensor may be failing? No issues with the speedometer.

Have determined it is not a vacuum leak or bad diaphram. Probably electrical in nature. May be a frayed wire in harness through steering column or something at the tail shaft? Any ideas out there?
