Electrical problem
2000 Dodge Dakota V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual 120K miles

I just bought this Dakota and I'm trying track down the cause of the speedometer reading about twice the real speed. I have changed the output speed sensor at the transmission but no luck. The speedometer still over reads actual speed.

First make sure the VSS is corrrect for this model, manufacturers will sometimes make midyear parts changes.

If correct, then you may have a wiring problem to the PCM or bad PCM or speedometer gauge in the IP.
