My 2000 dodge dakota overheated in traffic and I had to have it towed to repair. The mechanic said it had a blown head gasket which he says head was taken to machine shop and 3 weeks later I paid 716.00. 2 days after picking the truck up same thing happened and now he is saying the head is CRACKED. I asked him WHY he didnt find the orginal reason this happened. He is saying the radiator needs replacing and then head work again. Can a CRACKED head be repaired? I was under the impression if your head cracks you need a new motor. Any help and info. You can give me would be appreciated. I may need to have this work done myself since I already spent over 700. Thank you

Cracks in aluminum head hard to find if crack is between valves and into water jacket then no repair can be done. Where both heads removed and milled?
Good chance radiator was at fault first time something had to make it overheat. Don't need new engine for cracked head very common proceedure.

He said he did the one head and had it taken to the machine shop. I am sure the radiator was the orginal CAUSE of the trouble.I dont know WHY he didn't know that! I don't think he did BOTH heads or atleast he is leading me to believe that a burnt valve was replaced and the one head was taken to the machine shop and "shaved" as he called it.

No he hasn't shown me anything. He is acting like I shouldn't be upset over spending 700.00 for repairs to what he said was a blown head gasket! And now saying the head is cracked! Could something the machine shop done have caused it? I don't understand WHY he didn't know this the first time!

Machine shop would have picked up on a crack if it was there the second overheating may have caused the crack. What is radiator problem leaking, blockeage?

He said it was blocked. But he told me when I picked it up that the heat wasn't getting hot. So shouldn't he have checked that and found that? He said the radiator might could be flushed out but wasnt sure. Ok you answered my question that the machine shop would have found the crack. I thought so but wasn't sure. I just know I dont feel like I should pay AGAIN for that head work. I am willing to pay the radiator but I just dont think the head work is MY fault.
