I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT
4x4 V6 Automatic with Extended Cab
The vehicle is in park with the ignition turned off and the key in my pocket.
1. The interior lights remain on.
2. The backup lights on top of the cab are on also.

With these lights on the battery was drained completely overnight.I removed the battery cables and then recharged the battery. As soon as I reconnected the battery cables those lights came back on.The key was not in the ignition.

It sounds like the headlight switch may be bad. It is what supplies power. I would check that first. Unplug it to see if the lights go out. IF they do, I would try replacing it.

Let me know if this helps. By the way, I noticed your name, 440 6 pack. What is it in?
