My 96 Dakota runs fine, no noticed reduction of power, no strange noises, but right about the same time it decided not to idle w/o me holding my foot on the gas at around 750 rpm, it also started taking longer for my automatic transmission to shift from 2nd to 3rd. Any codes? If so get them read, autozone does it free, in the meantime, have a look at the EGR for sticking partly open, or the Idle air control valve, it's bolted to the throttle body, last, try unplugging the MAF at the air filter, just to take a short drive.
