My dodge dakota transmission is a model 231 D. I checked at autozone for a rebuild kit but they didn't have one to match this model. Is there any kit out their for this model and/or is there another kit that is universal and can go into almost any transmission like mine? Or should i just replace the entire transmission?

depending what was wrong with the transmission determins if you should rebuild it or get another one. The transmission can bre expensive thing. Did the transmission fluid smell burnt? If so then you could possibly get away with rebuilding it. Or you could get one from a local salvage yard {less expensive than a new one} Contact Doge and ask the parts dept.tell them the transmission number and ask if there is a rebuilding kit for it. Most dealers will tell you to bring the car in . But some will let you know what rebuildng kit is required. Some kits will cover a couple of transmissions. To rebuild or not that is up to you and how much you want to put into it. {just trying to save you some money} talk to c local garage and tell him what the vehicle does and see what he recommends. Depending on the problem you have had with the transmission is the key to rebuild.
