Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Dodge Dakota V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 94 Dodge Dakota pickup (8 CYLINDER). When I turn the key to start the vehicle there is a click but the starting motor does not run. I need to turn the key on and off numerous times before the starting motor runs and starts the truck. Sometimes the vehicle will start the first time while at other times it requires numerous attempts to get it going. There is no rhyme nor reason to the number of attempts required to get the motor going. Any thoughts.

Hello, did you try cranking in neutral? When the starter refuses to crank, I'd do some testing at the starter relay. The voltage for the switch side of relay is hot all the time. The voltage for the coil side of relay comes from the ignition switch, with key in the crank position.
