This is our 2nd vehicle that is rarely used. It was starting and running fine last time we drove it. The only "issue" that it has is that the engine light is on, but when we pulled the codes on it - it came back as a leak detected in the evap coil.

Went to start the van the other day and it wouldn't start. It clicked several times and we gave up. Went back about 20 min. later and tried to start it again. This time turned off the radio and a/c (didn't realize it was on originally) and it clicked several times but then started. Since then it does still click some, but it does start.

Is this simply a battery? The battery is about 4 or 5 years old.

From what you have stated, yes it does seem like just a weak battery. You should have it tested. Most auto part stores will test your battery, as well as your alternator, free of charge (on or off of vehicle). Also inspect your battery terminals to ensure they are clean and cables tightened properly.

If you hear a single loud clunk from the starter, suspect worn solenoid contacts. This is a very common problem and always starts out being intermittent. It will get progressively worse until finally it will no longer crank the engine.

The contacts can be replaced for 20 bucks, but most people just replace the entire starter.
