My engine has two cylinders with no compression and the service dept said the engine needs to be replaced. The cost is $6,600.00 including labor. Is that cost reasonable and is it worth it to replace the engine on a minivan that has 188,000 miles on the transmission?

The way to determine if it is worth repairing the vehicle is if the cost of repair is more than the value of the vehicle in a repaired state.

If it is then we don't fix it. If it isn't then you can make the decision if you want to keep it. This is just a personal decision at that point.

Also, the cost of the replacement is most likely a complete engine and that is not an extremely high cost so depending on the hour rate they are charging then I would not think it is an issue.

However, I am attaching the labor time to help with the expectation based on the hourly rate.

Please run through this info and let us know what questions you have.

Thanks
