Engine Performance problem
2000 Dodge Caravan 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100K miles

van loses power and "chugs" frequently especially if I just went down a hill and start up another one, but it does it other times as well. The engine light comes on while this happens but then goes back off while running smoothly. Seems fine on the highway.

Two things you need to check. First, have the computer scanned for trouble codes. If the light was on, it should be stored in the computer. Also, most parts stores will do it for free. However, I will say that chances are it will come up with a random missfire.

Next, check the fuel pump pressure and regulator. Here is a how to for checking it. Let me know what you find. Also, most parts stores will lend or rent the gauge needed to do it.
