I have a 1999 Caravan with a 3.3 and 4spd auto. I just bought the van and the issue I am having is that all gears are highlighted on the gear indicator. It isn't reading that it is in park and so it won't start.(same with putting it in neutral) The guy I got it from said it had started for him but would not move when he put it in gear. My question is, is it a mecanical or electrical issue? Am I looking at some kind of actuator or an entire new transmission?

It sounds like it's related to the neutral safety switch. Has that been checked?

Well I contacted the guy I bought it from, and he had one of his friends look at it for him. As it turned out the friend unplugged the transmission range sensor, which I plugged back in and got the van to start. Kinda bad news for for me because it means it does need a whole transmission and not just a sensor. I was figuring on that whan I bought the van though.

Thanks for the reply though!

That isn't good news. Maybe you can find a good low mileage on in a salvage yard for a good price.

Let me know if you have other questions.
