Can I repair the crack with JB weld, can it be welded or does it need to be taken into a transmission shop? Or is it worth the money to fixit when the vehicle is kellyblue booked at about $1600 with a trade in value of $450.

Aluminum welding of anykind is specialized. If JB weld says it works on aluminum and it's not cracked in a real high pressure critical area, I would give it a try. If I told you what I did with JB weld on a turbo shelby charger cylinder wall that lasted a year...well, I never tried it on aluminum but I do wish you luck. Too bad you don't live near me, I'd give you 500 as is. Good luck with it. The surface preparation is so important if you can find the proper compound.

Did the case crack due to the large pin coming loose in the differential? If so, scrap the case. It's spread apart in an area that was machined to critical tolerances. The pin issue is common.

If the crack is somewhere else, not caused by internal part failure, that's different.
