1997 Dodge Avenger transmission problem?

Hello I have just purchased a 1997 dodge avenger knowing it needed some sort of transmission work,
what happens is when I start the car and try to shift into gear it doesnt always want to shift, then when it does the engine revs up but the tires do not turn I tried a fluid flush and filter repair no help there what is the problem is it need a new transmission or transmission control module? Anything you can help with will be great thanks

Sounds like the transmission is slipping, bring it in and have it checked out.

Before you do anything, is the check engine light on? If so, get it scanned (autozone) for free. If it throws a speed sensor code, or a TCM code, then most likely the tranny will go into whats called "limp" mode and is an easy fix. Those trannys have 2 speed sensors, they are magnetic and always get covered in worn metal from the tranny. Cheap part, around 30-45 each, change both. Input and output.
