Defroster not working

I can't get air to defroster, heater still works.

Most likely this is due to the mode door actuator has stopped working. This is responsible for directing the air from the panel positions to the defrost and it has stopped. Normally they default to the defrost position but it may be stuck. Normally you would be able to test this by seeing if the position moved to the floor from the vents but you have a separate actuator for the floor only.

I would go ahead and replace this and go from there. I attached the info below on how to replace it. Let us know if you have questions. Thanks

Hi,

On this vehicle, there is an actuator that is responsible for changing the airflow to the defrost mode. It sounds like it failed. What I would suggest is to remove it and see if it responds when you request defrost. Here are the directions for replacement. The pics attached correlate with the directions.

1. Remove the plenum chamber.

This one is up high, but if you remove the plenum chamber, you should be able to get it.

First you need to remove the air duct system. Here are the directions. The plenum chamber removal will follow.

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to: Dashboard/Instrument Panel. See: Dashboard / Instrument Panel > Service and Repair

2. Remove the audio unit.

4. Remove the screws and the LH demister.

5. Remove the screws and remove the LH instrument panel duct.

6. Remove the screws and remove the RH demister.

7. Remove the screws and remove the RH instrument panel duct.

8. Remove the screws.
9. Remove the plenum chamber, defroster duct and center instrument panel duct as an assembly.

ASSEMBLY
1. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
