Recently the lock for the transmission has started to malfunction and will not always unlock the shifter from Park, and when this occurs the radio shuts off. However when the radio turns back on, the transmission can then be shifted out of park again. Both the radio fuses and the ECM fuses have been replaced and the transmission fluid has been topped off. Is this an issue with the transmission, or should I be looking for something else? Also it does not matter what the weather is outside when this happens. Please help.

Is that something that I can fix myself, or would it have to go into a shop? If it can be done myself, where would this part be located?

Also is it ok to still drive the car, when this system malfunctions? If you place the key in the slot next to the shifter, it unlock the gear shifter.

The only thing you doing is overriding the system with the key best bring it in could have something to do with the brake and cruise control circuit

At first I thought it was the brake light switch, which I replaced, and that did not correct the issue and I do have brake lights, but do not have the cruise control option. Is it still safe to drive, without causing any damage to either the transmission or the engine?

Thats good to hear, as long as I do not have to worry about having to replace the transmission/engine that goos news.

In theory when this problem is fixed then that should also fix the problem with the radio turning off, right?
